VIPP x STUDIO KO

In an unexpected rendez-vous between refinement and roughness, Vipp has invited Marrakesh- and Paris-based architecture practice Studio KO to design an ephemeral guesthouse in a restored garage in the courtyard of the Vipp HQ in Copenhagen.

Studio KO unveils their interpretation of a Vipp guesthouse responding to Vipp’s growing portfolio of architecturally significant properties in spectacular settings around the world, from Puglia to Tasmania and Todos Santos. Studio KO has crafted a visionary space that examines notions of home and the meeting of cultures.

To us Vipp represents the North, with all the excellence of its design and industrial production quality, while we at Studio KO bring a very different sensibility, drawing from ancient cultures, as our roots are in the South.

ABOUT STUDIO KO – Recognized worldwide for their materially driven, layered spaces like the must-visit Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Marrakesh and the hot-spot Chiltern Firehouse in London, this collaboration marks the first venture on Scandinavian soil for the widely acclaimed architecture duo behind Studio KO - Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty.

Since meeting at the Beaux-Arts school of Architecture in Paris and the subsequent creation of their studio in 2000, Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty have applied their elementary assertion to every scale of their projects. Rooted in a classical training, the duo asserts a global and immersive approach to their profession, from architecture to interior design and furniture design. Based in Paris and Marrakech, Studio KO creates contemporary public and residential architecture all over the world, inspired by the intelligence of places. Privileging primary and ancestral materials derived from the hand of man, stone, wood, metal, leather, the studio creates spaces in constant tension.

AN ODE TO THE KITCHEN - One of Vipp’s hero products, the V1 kitchen, distinguished for its precision and materiality, and exuding a contemporary, pure minimalism is presented in a remarkable copper coating and will be framed by a protective shell of burnt wood made according to ancient techniques of wood preservation. Like the act of cooking, this wood touched by fire represents the archaic beginnings of humanity.

“This installation is an ode to what is so essential to all of us: the kitchen. It evokes all that is so central to our collective imagination: sharing meals and the art of cooking.” - Karl Fournier, Studio KO

About Vipp

Vipp is a Danish, 3rd generation family-owned company. Founded by metalsmith Holger Nielsen in the small town of Randers, Denmark in 1939, his entrepreneurial debut was a practical waste bin initially crafted for his wife’s hair salon. In over half a century, Vipp remained a prerogative for the professional market.

When Holger passes away in the beginning of the nineties, his daughter Jette inherits the bin and a metal workshop in the backyard of her childhood home in Randers. Joined by her children, Kasper and Sofie, they set out to transform the bin into a brand.
