An old soul in the heart of Copenhagen
Set in the heart of Copenhagen, by the charming canals of Christianshavn, a nearly 280-year-old townhouse has been given a new lease of life. Behind its old walls and uneven floors, holistic health and creative practitioner Amalie Reedtz-Thott and her family have created a calm, contemporary home that retains the character and imperfections of its past.

The house is very much the centre of family life. With four people under one roof, it is a place for everyday routines, shared meals and the inevitable movement of family life. The kitchen naturally forms the heart of the home, making it Amalie’s favourite room.
Against the historic backdrop of the townhouse, Amalie chose a distinctly contemporary Vipp V3 kitchen. For her, the decision was as much about architecture as it was about function.

“I also love how the materials change throughout the day. In the morning light, the kitchen feels very different form the evening, when the room becomes warmer and much more intimate.”

It was the feeling of an old farmhouse in the middle of the city that made Amalie fall for the house. She remembers walking through the door for the first time and immediately noticing how the noise of Copenhagen seemed to disappear.

“I have always been drawn to old houses because they have a kind of soul that you can’t create from scratch. There were details everywhere. Uneven walls, old floors, proportions, little imperfections that give it life.”
