“The idea was to transform the Swivel chair into more than a seat. As the tapestry wraps around the form, the chair becomes something to read, almost like a scene that reveals itself from different perspectives. The chair becomes a spatial object, a scenography that exists somewhere between furniture and artwork.”

THREE CHAIRS - ONE LANDSCAPE
Drawing inspiration from the rich European tradition of tapestry, Jayet chose a woven narrative, allowing the chair to become a canvas for scenery and storytelling. Schumacher's Flemish Tapestry, a monumental textile inspired by historic verdure tapestries, is woven in cotton yarns across more than ten individual hues and depicts a lush, painterly landscape with remarkable depth and dimensionality. Spread across three individual chairs, fragments of forests, horizons and foliage unfold into a continuous composition that only reveals itself when the pieces are brought together.

A SCENIC SWIVEL
The project establishes a dialogue between two distinct design traditions. The ornamental language of French decorative arts meets the refined industrial precision of Danish design, creating a layered expression that is both historically informed and distinctly contemporary. Soft textiles and narrative imagery bring a new sensitivity to the Swivel chair's architectural silhouette, while preserving the functional ethos that defines Vipp.

“It’s a study in contrast. The chair combines the narrative richness of tapestry with the restrained expression of Danish design.”

A CANVAS FOR CUSTOMIZATION
The collaboration with Edgar Jayet marks another chapter in Vipp’s bespoke universe where artists and customers alike are invited to use the Vipp Swivel chair as a canvas. By upholstering the chair in their own fabric, a familiar design takes on a tailored expression, while retaining its characteristic silhouette and industrial precision.

“Allowing for bespoke editions is a balance between a trusted, engineered construction and the freedom to tailor a Vipp piece to the customer’s own interior vision.”
