Volksdorf, Germany
Behind the Art Deco bricks
Behind the bricks of a characterful 1928 Art Deco house in Volksdorf, a suburb of Hamburg, Germany, a young couple has elegantly created a modern kitchen against a classic backdrop. The highly contemporary Vipp V3 kitchen adds an industrial zest to a house of historic charm. It was this potential of blending the old and the new that convinced Eva and Jens to purchase the house back in 2012.

"There’s something about the subtle movement in the panels — it’s sleek but not too cold or industrial. The way the light hits them changes throughout the day, creating different shadows and textures. It’s a beautiful combination of functionality and artistry."

If you are looking for the owners of this Hamborg home, head for the kitchen. In the heart of the home, Eva, Jens and their dog Micky spend most hours while at home cooking up new recipes – Italian preferably. The Meike Peter’s 365 cookbook has found a permanent spot on the kitchen counter booming of fresh ingredients.
The couple fell in love with the house the moment they walked in. The general structure and a perfect blend of history and character spoke to them. Eva describes their home as full of charm, with beautiful old wooden floors, original doors, and even hidden cabinets tucked away in unexpected places.
"It has this warmth and soul that you just cannot replicate in modern homes."
Metal know how – The freestanding modules are wrapped in Vipp's trademark material, anodized aluminium with vertically extruded profiles curving around the edges to bring a light elegance to the metallic appearance.
Raised on legs – Inspired by furniture, the Vipp kitchen is raised on legs, adding extra functionality with easy access to cleaning. Set screws in stainless steel let you adapt the kitchen to uneven floors.
Rounded edges – The edges of the stainless-steel countertop and aluminium siding of the V3 kitchen are rounded for a soft take on the industrial material.
