Idyll in Istedgade

Vesterbro, Copenhagen

In the once rough area of Copenhagen, the street of Istedgade has evolved into a go-to place for unique shopping, hip restaurant experiences and a vibrant nightlife. Here, on this street, a family of five has settled in a two-story apartment architecturally designed by the couple themselves.

Meet the family

The 189 m2 apartment is inhabited by the Danish/Norwegian couple Katrine Rasmussen and Didrik Fjeldstad and their three children Svea (14), Ville (12), and Vinter (8). Katrine is Head of Operations at the catering platform Able and Didrik is Vice President Brand Marketing at SAS airlines. The couple met at Aarhus University, where they both studied, and moved to Copenhagen 15 years ago.

Counter culture

As a big family, they love spending time in the spacious kitchen, and the Vipp kitchen island w. seating module is a great way to enjoy the often busy early mornings together. While Katrine or Didrik prepare lunchboxes, the kids hang out and eat their breakfast on the opposite side.

Third time is a charm

Doing renovations is not a new discipline to the couple. Katrine has a passion for redecorating and creating the perfect space for her and the rest of the family. The Vesterbro apartment is their third home which has undergone Katrine’s architectural and renovation skills.

Meatpacking District vibes

The kitchen area is surrounded by white kitchen tiles – a kind nod to the Meatpacking District, where white tiles are to be seen in both the renovated restaurants, bars, galleries, and in the still existing meat and food businesses.

Through the looking glass

The kitchen and living room are divided by an industrial glass partition, and the self-made mortar walls continue into the living room. The industrial features are softened by a playful interior of colourful books, posters, fluffy rugs and vintage finds.
